The nails matter, but application technique is what determines whether they last three days or one. Here's how to do it right.
Step 1: Push back cuticles and buff the nail surface lightly. A completely flat, ridge-free surface gives the adhesive more contact area, which directly improves how long the set holds.
Step 2: Clean nails with rubbing alcohol before anything else. Natural oils on the nail surface are the number one reason press-ons lift early. A quick alcohol wipe removes oil residue that lotion, soap, and even washing your hands doesn't fully clear.
Step 3: Size before you stick. Test-fit every nail against your actual nail bed before applying anything. A tip that's even slightly too wide or narrow will lift at the edges no matter how good the adhesive is.
Step 4: Apply adhesive to both the tip and the nail, not just one side. Even coverage on both surfaces creates a stronger, more even bond than adhesive on a single side.
Step 5: Press from the cuticle line down, holding firm pressure for 15 to 20 seconds per nail. Starting at the base and rolling downward pushes out air bubbles, which are the main cause of a tip lifting from the center.
Step 6: Avoid water and heavy hand use for the first hour. The adhesive needs time to fully set. Dishes, hot showers, or heavy typing in that first window is when most early lifting happens.
Step 7: Remove gently with warm water soak, not force. When it's time to take them off, a warm water soak loosens the adhesive enough to remove nails intact, which is what makes the “reusable” part actually possible for next time.
